B) Player's main LJ journal: Zylly
C) Email: crossman.dylan@gmail.com
D) Character name: Mark Grayson/Invincible
E) Do you see the character as a primary character, who would be used regularly? A secondary character, who would be more background? Or a plot character, who shows up from time to time and drives stories? Primary, I reckon.
F) New character LJ journal (if already created): im_invincible
G) Base of operations: Titans Tower when with the team, otherwise based out of his home city.
H) Please explain further your reasons for applying for this character. What types of stories would you like to do with this character? What sorts of heroes/villains would you be interested in interacting with. Is there anything about the established comic-book canon of this character that you would like to see changed/different? Please be as detailed as you wish.
Mark, of course, harkens back to the Peter Parker archetype of the young hero, struggling with being a hero and being a teenager at the same time, and the challenges that come with that. Of course, the giant conspiracy going on in the background with the Viltrumite stuff going on just adds to the interesting and tragic factor.
Mark needs to grow as a hero (which will be helped by mentoring from Spider-Man) and struggle with the eventual revelations about who his father really is and why he's really here, and what that means for him.
For fitting into the merged universe, I've come up with the following basic ideas:
Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man arrives on Earth about ten years prior to the launch of the modern age of heroes. Quickly establishing a heroic identity for himself, he is approached by Cecil Stedman, a high ranking SHIELD agent. Working together, they downplay the presence of quite so powerful a hero on Earth, in exchange for helping Nolan become more aware of situations where he can help. SHIELD remains aware of Nolan's true intentions, but believes he is usable at this time.
___years ago, Mark Grayson is born to Nolan and his wife, Debbie. From a young age, Mark is aware of his father's secret identity.
The appearance of Superman forces Nolan into retirement, recognizing the danger of potential discovery from a full-blooded Kryptonian. He occasionally continues to operate when special emergencies arise.
Shortly after his sixteenth birthday, Mark Grayson's powers kick-in. His father begins mentoring him. Invincible begins gathering acclaim as a local hero.
I'd like to keep Mark in the early phrases of his career, keeping him as a fairly young/new hero, so that the hammer can be dropped. Jeff, I know, has some awesome ideas for the Viltrumites and their connections to the Kryptonians and Daxamites.
